Yes, significant research and testing have been conducted to prove the safety of Prevail.

Prevail Disinfectants contain low levels of hydrogen peroxide and commonly used, safe ingredients such as surfactants, stabilizing agents, and wetting agents. When used as directed, Prevail has been proven to be non-toxic (acute oral, dermal and respiratory), non-irritating to eyes, non-corrosive to skin and non-skin sensitizing.

In accordance with the SDS (Safety Data Sheet), in-use concentrations of Prevail Disinfectants do not carry any hazard statements or hazard pictograms, and do not require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling the product. We do still recommend the use of gloves as a general practice when disinfecting, to help minimize the risk of disease transmission.

Further, in support of the extensive toxicity testing that has been conducted on the Prevail formulations, there are no known toxicological effects with regard to chronic toxicity, carcinogenic or mutagenic effects, or reproductive toxicity.

Prevail is non-toxic and non-irritating when used as directed. The only active ingredient is low levels of hydrogen peroxide, which evaporates into oxygen and water post use. As with other liquids, if the user directly inhales sprayed, aerosolized solution, discomfort and coughing may result. For this reason, we recommend using foaming applicators, such as hose-end foamers or foaming trigger sprayers, which limits aerosolization of the solution.

In accordance with the SDSs (Safety Data Sheets), Prevail Disinfectants (including Ready-to-Use, Wipes and diluted concentrate) do not carry any hazard statements or hazard pictograms, and do not require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when using the product. In addition, when applying any disinfectant using a high-volume pressure washer application, protective clothing (e.g., coveralls) may be worn as a general precaution to protect clothing and skin from the large amount of solution that may be present.

When handling undiluted Prevail Concentrate (for instance, if you are diluting manually), gloves should be worn.

It is important that you do not add other products to Prevail. The chemistry behind Prevail, Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide®, was formulated to be a potent germicide and effective cleaner. No other products are needed and mixing chemicals can be potentially dangerous. Remember that Prevail products have excellent detergents – there is no reason to add additional cleaning products or antimicrobial chemicals to Prevail. One exception to this comes when applying Prevail in freezing temperatures, in which propylene glycol may be added to Prevail Concentrate to prevent the solution from freezing. Users should follow the instructions in the Prevail Cold Weather Protocol when using propylene glycol with Prevail.

Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide^®, also known as AHP^®, is a patented technology that powers Prevail Disinfectants. AHP was designed to overcome the challenges posed by older disinfectants used in hospitals and other healthcare facilities, which were slow-acting and were associated with significant health hazards. After becoming the leading technology in critical healthcare facilities due to its unique balance between safety and effectiveness, AHP^® is now trusted in a wide range of industries where infection prevention and safety are paramount, including farm animal care environments.

The only active ingredient in AHP^® is low levels of hydrogen peroxide, which are combined with other commonly-used safe ingredients to boost its efficacy and speed. This results in a solution that is powerful enough to kill tough pathogens, without compromising on safety for you, animals or the planet.

Hydrogen peroxide has long been known to have antimicrobial properties, but by itself, is not effective as a surface disinfectant. Hydrogen peroxide is naturally unstable, and will rapidly break down to water and oxygen when applied to a surface.

AHP harnesses the pathogen-killing power of hydrogen peroxide, but contains other commonly-used safe ingredients to result in a solution that is highly effective against pathogens, yet non-hazardous to animals, users, and the environment. While commercially-available hydrogen peroxide is most often sold as a 3% solution, AHP^® contains a maximum of 0.5% hydrogen peroxide at in-use concentrations, just 1/6^th of the brown bottle solution found in most pharmacies. AHP^® contains surfactants (detergents), which allow it to clean and disinfect at the same time, remaining highly effective in the presence of dirt and debris. It also contains other safe ingredients to stabilize the solution and improve surface coverage, resulting in its long shelf life and superior product performance.

Prevail is compatible with a wide range of commonly-used materials, including stainless steel, laminate, porcelain, ceramics, high & low density plastics, resins and silicon rubber, among others. Prevail is ideal for use on a variety of hard, non-porous surfaces, including:

Prevail Concentrate can be used to disinfect quickly and effectively throughout your facility, following just six simple steps:

1. Dilute the concentrate

If using a point-use dilution system, ensure it is calibrated to the correct dilution ratio (1:40 for disinfection, 1:128 for pre-soak and general cleaning). If pre-diluting the concentrate before it is applied, use a mixing station, pump or measuring cup to create the desired concentration.

Remember to apply a workplace label to any secondary containers to keep track of the dilution ratio, lot number and expiry date.  

2. Dry clean to remove solid waste

Using a shovel or scraping tool, remove as much debris and organic matter as possible. Starting at the top of the building and working down to the floors from one end of the building to the other.

3. Pre-soak (if required)

Pre-soak all surfaces and equipment with Prevail® Disinfectant using a dilution of 8 mL/L of water (1:128). Apply from the bottom to top.

4. Rinse with water

Rinse with high pressure washer (>1000 psi), working from top to bottom. Use hot water if available.

5. Disinfect

For routine disinfecting apply Prevail^® Disinfectant using a dilution of 100 mL per 4 L of water (1:40). A foaming application is recommended. Using water and pressure from power washer lines, attach foaming gun properly adjusted to deliver 1:40 dilution. Move foaming gun quickly and evenly, cover all surfaces and equipment with foam, moving from the bottom up.

6. Wait 5 Minutes

Wait for the required contact time of 5 minutes to be reached. No need to rinse or wait for surfaces to dry.

In most cases, you do not need to rinse surfaces that have been cleaned and disinfected with Prevail. However, you may occasionally see a white streaky residue on some surfaces after using Prevail. Or, sometimes the floor may feel sticky after mopping. If this occurs, the streaks and stickiness can be removed by rinsing the surface with water and drying with a clean damp cloth. It is essential to allow for the required contact time before rinsing.

Prevail should be stored away from direct sunlight and properly labelled. When storing Prevail in your facility, remember to keep the container tightly closed and in a dry location. Make sure the product is stored in an area that is out of direct sunlight, as well as away from heat and ignition sources. Also, avoid storage at elevated temperatures.

• Prevail Ready-to-Use: pour the liquid slowly down the drain with running water, leaving the water running for an extra 30 seconds. The empty container can be recycled, if possible.
• Prevail Wipes: Due to the pathogen contamination and chemical substance on the wipes they should be discarded as solid waste. The empty container can be recycled, if possible.
• Prevail Concentrate:
  • For small quantities (< 3.78 litres), dilute the remaining product, then pour the diluted product slowly down the drain with running water, leaving the water running for an extra 1-2 minutes.
